I really ought to write something about the sorry state of modern spirituality.

Spirituality as it currently exists, or a version of spirituality that identifies itself as modern?

No answering "both," either. >:/

BTW
There's a theory that comics, by their nature, are the closest thing to primal spiritual art.

Hell house idea! (Lige)

Oh! Oh! Oh!

Somebody needs to do a 'hell house' where hell is populated by evil-hearted fundamentalists who spent their lifetimes being openly cruel, and signing God's name to it!

The lowest level, would be for televangelists....

.....but maybe we shouldn't talk about that. I'm getting too much of a kick out of the idea right now....

We'd like to see it start out as maybe a youtube thing, and then grow into a real haunted-house deal on Halloween.

But we wouldn't want it to scare kids. We'd want it to scare Christians who are assholes.

(BTW, congratulations on not having been exposed to televangelists. You certainly haven't missed anything to be desired there, in my opinion.)

So, did your parents feel that TV wasn't good for kids, was that the reason you (yes, very fortunately) grew up somewhere besides in front of a TV screen - ?
(I ask as I sit in front of a computer screen. Thank you, Lige, for pointing out the irony.)

We recently met a two year old grand daughter of a friend, who was using a Blackberry. The child can't quite pronounce her own name yet, but she's using a Blackberry.
We're actually quite concerned now about when we get grandchildren....do we need to make sure they have access to a Blackberry, or make sure they have access to a distraction *from* the damn thing....?
(Their mothers will probably not be stay-at-home moms, so we're kind of hoping to be the stay-at-home gramma.)
Any thoughts about this - ?

Wouldn't it be awesome if multis and other people who maybe have intricate inner worlds, had access to that technology ? Then we could show our worlds to each other if we wanted to, or maybe even visit each other's worlds in a tangible way.

It's funny they were calling that world in Avatar intangible. For us, and some other multis that we know, our inner worlds are very tangible to us....unless I misunderstand the meaning of the word. I mean, we see our inner world, we hear it, and if we shut out external distractions we can smell it, touch it, and we've even tasted the coffee and beer that we've had around the campfire inside.

I think more people could actually benefit from having an inside world and then taking small steps to manifest it in the outside world....but, that's just me.
I mean, an inner world is a great way to find out either what you truly desire....or what is truly bothering you....

I would argue that it has everything to do with time period, or more specifically, our inability to live in our own. For example, our public education system teaches us about literature, rarely if ever uses books written in the students' lifetime, then bemoans a lack of literacy in the new generation.

I would argue that it has everything to do with time, specifically the common inability to live in ones own. I read somewhere, I think second hand via Alan Moore, that Nostalgia is a key seed to Fascism.
