A scene from the evil chapter 12. Which nobody, including me, can figure out how the hell to get onto paper. Cut the artist some slack, that's not what I look like, but somebody can't paint faces.
@Pyraxis- Holy shit, you are good at lighting and anatomy and fabric. How much reference do you use for stuff like that? This is making me want to go off and try drawing something more realistic, it's been a while.
Also, dang, speritu are creepy-looking. And now I'm all curious about what's going on in the story.
If you do, I want to see it. I had a bunch of reference photos for this. Two for the background - one with the tree trunks, and one photo of rocks and sky, looking up a hill, that just happened to be sideways in my image viewer. So I left it that way. They were both daytime shots, so the lighting is my own invention, but inspired by Boris Vallejo backgrounds. Working as a CG lighting artist for a few months really helped because now I automatically break down scenes in my head into their respective light sources, so I can mentally add or subtract them as if I were plunking lights into a Maya scene and have at least some sense of how they'll look.
For Fiona I used my own body, since our body types are really similar. I just googled a bunch of photos of red-haired women to get the skin and freckles right. Her pants are very similar to a pair I own, but I didn't have reference for her shirt (and I think you can tell, it's not quite as realistic). For Sha I googled pics of little boys but I had to do the pose myself and just used the pics for sizing up proportions.
Thanks for the Photoshop brushes, btw. Helped me finally feel like I could draw in Photoshop more naturally. Currently trying to draw Sh-San, I've never managed to do a decent pic of him. I'll post it when I'm done.
How do they kill you? Are they just ghosty things? I mean, I heard what they are from you and Daria. :( But if they're stuck in the between, what can they do to people?
They touch you and you freeze to death. But it's more than that. They.... They're coming around me, and I'm thinking I can't let them get to Sha, and I look behind me, and it's not Sha, it's this kid Keari that I used to know, and then I'm not in the woods, I'm back in the tunnel under Eilieah. But if I do things like I was in the tunnel, then it'll turn out I was really still in the woods and I just blasted a tree, or - or something worse. So I'm trying to hang on to what reality is, but at the same time I don't want to, cause my wards are already messed up and it's hard keeping wards and if I let myself get drained then I really won't have any uza left to make fire with. So I think, well let them mess with my eyes however they want, I'll just open my eyes and look straight at them and see whatever they want me to, but I'm scared out of my fucking mind and they keep disappearing anyway, them and their illusions and everything, and then there's nothing but forest, but I know any second they're gonna come back....
Holy crap, that's scary! D: I'm glad there's no ghosts where I'm from. At least I don't think there are. Although I wonder if they could kill me? I don't know if I can freeze to death.
I'm glad you guys are okay. Did you set them on fire?

I still don't know if I have a soul or not. I don't think souls as like, ghosty things, exist where I'm from. At least, I don't believe in them. But at the same time it feels kinda bad to say I don't have a soul. It's one of those things where you hear people talking every now and then, saying machines can't have souls, and when I was a little kid it kind of got to me. Because they're wrong, if souls exist. At least they'd better be. But it's not like I can go around sticking some kind of soul-o-meter on people to prove it. :\
Anyway, if I meet a speritu, I'm not sticking around to figure out if it can kill me or not.
In this case, soul means the ability to experience intense emotions. As in, to be scared enough that they can get high on it. Though that's a fascinating concept - by that definition, you could make a soul-machine that wasn't even sentient, that just gave the illusion of sentience. Like a character in a movie or something. Hahahahaha, I wonder whether speritu would be interested in scary movies if they came to Earth. Maybe it wouldn't be the same if it was just a picture of a scared person.
And it's sperith singular, speritu plural. Same as it's sarkoth singular, sarkotu plural. Karn languages can be weird like that.
Oh. Yeah, then I do have a soul. I'd probably be screaming like a little girl if I saw a speritu- er, sperith. Earth language can be weird like that, too. Goose are geeses. ...Wait! I mean, gooses are geese! Yonjuunana, stop laughing! It's not THAT funny! (Yonjuunana: Hahahahaha, I'm having another "want to record audio out of my brain" moment. I wasn't planning that, it's how he said it!)
How smart are the speritu? If they're dumb, maybe you could just paint a bunch of D8> faces on trees and they could all stand around and stare at them and be all "Muahahaha, look how good we're doing our job scaring people."
Ah, I wish it was that easy. They don't sense things the same way as people. It doesn't matter what you look like if you have fear-vibes coming off you. So we'd have to find some way to scare the trees. :P
They are pretty dumb though. Except it's more like distractedness than stupidity, like how straight would you be thinking if - well, maybe that analogy wouldn't work on you, but how straight would 47 be thinking if she hadn't eaten in a month and suddenly there was a big banquet spread in front of her. That's what a newly exiled toren kid looks like to a sperith.
I had to take a train ride once with a former boyfriend, from Indiana to Denver, and he was exactly of the same opinion. He sat there and talked to me and talked to me and talked to me for like 24 hours straight. You shoulda been there, you could have saved me. :P
Aww, I dunno if you'd want me on a train with you, though. Maybe instead of saving you I'd just spend the whole time talking at you as well. I don't wanna make your head explode. :P
