This is Yveth from the Water Song, the book project that [personal profile] shashigai and I are working on.

You wouldn't see her like this unless you were pretty deep in the speritu world. To normal people, there wouldn't be anything but a faint glowing silhouette. If that. Even a little light can drown it out. But shift into toren form... or if you are a sperith yourself... and the silhouette solidifies into an actual being.

This isn't literally what she looks like either. Speritu take on layers of illusion, and their forms shift and warp when they're seen from different angles, so you can never be quite sure what you're looking at. When I first saw her six years ago, I thought she was drow. That didn't make sense, because it wasn't D&D and the world didn't have drow. I kept trying to figure out what she was, and at one point tried to write her out of the story completely. It didn't work - the plot didn't make sense without a couple key things she did, and substituting in a different character didn't mesh properly either. So here she is again.

Pen and ink illustration of a black-skinned elven woman in leather armor. She has an obsidian knife in her right hand and she's stepping forward. Her eyes are blank white orbs. There is a spiral behind her and an arc of metal that looks a little like a wing, and her long white hair is flowing out to the side.

I like her. She reminds me of someone who might have been seen in my world. And this is a beautiful drawing.

She's wearing that medieval hunter-girl outfit! hehehe *grins*

Great drawing :-) I love that spirally stuff behind her. Like a wing? or a ... um. can't think of the word. Like the way she sets the energy spinning as she walks through it.

Nah, not hard at all really. I think they were quite common, and also to keep them from flopping round they had lacing to, around the leg. Not sure which time-period and social class I saw that kinda detail, but yeah...

Buttons... you're right, they're quite recent in the grand scheme of life. Mind you I think even in paleolithic times there is evidence of buttons. But maybe not continued down through the centuries.

Ah heck *goes to research*

*cracks up laughing* I got a whole lota references to buttons on the internet *more laughter*

Damn! Like a jacket rather than a dress? I like your interpretation of it. I was making it to be a dress, but now I see the jacket style of it and now can't decide which....

hahaha you got me thinking j-t *grins*

The belt wouldn't cut easily, and with the belt the arms wouldn't fly around. Only a bit restricting.

Imoh never had lacing up the front, only along the sides, and like... the two sides weren't separate, they just had loose bits under the lacing to get it on and off and over her breasts.

Never thought of it from a fighting perspective but it is harder to get to the underarms, And even if the lacing did undo, because it is basically a whole tunic, just big, and pulled in with lacing, it wouldn't get in the way.

The hair would be the worst though. When they went into battle they always plaited it really tightly then slid the plait down the back of the tunic so it wasn't easily grabable. (not to mention those ears. Irl battle she'd probably have a bandana.)

(Imoh wants me to say there was quite a difference in Kaiel's dress for ceremonies etc, and when going into real battle. The pretty stuff like hair out and loose was kept for ceremonys etc)

In the Bad Times I kept my reeeelly short for the same reason. One of the reasons we defiantly wear it longer now. A symbol of it not being the Bad Times anymore.

Hey what is the black stuff on the left behind her? more energy?

Spinning the energy as you walk is a good description of it. And it kinda conveys she isn't just gonna be fighting in the physical.

You're good! Intuitive *smiles* I love the piccie :-)

I want a dress, not a tunic.

Just saying so Leonie can see it :-)
