Lin is supposed to write something here about what exactly this is, but I can't make it happen.

Wow.
That's awesome.

Wow, that turned out great! I especially love the anatomy on the arms and hands, and the swirly blue looks very cool.

Dang, now you're making me want to experiment with sculpture more. *adds "attempt to make Sh-San out of clay* to ever-growing list of art projects I want to do*

[identity profile] yonjuunana.livejournal.com 2010-02-09 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! I have a lot of clay- I can bring some along with me.

Some other things I want to bring to show you are the computer game Obsidian, assuming it still works on my computer. It's an old puzzle/adventure game sort of like Myst, but it's set in a world that's supposed to be nanobots creating environments based on dreams, and they completely nailed the dream-like feel and it was very inspiring to me when I first played it back in middle school.

Also the movie Heima about Sigur Ros going on tour back in Iceland, for if we're all tired and want to relax and watch a very pretty music/art movie.

Do you guys happen to have a PS2? If not, I may think about bringing mine. It would also be fun to show you Shadow of the Colossus. Basically I want to have fun showing you cool inspiring art things. :)

If you don't like it, you can tell me, and we can try to find something else that we both like. Or we can take turns showing each other things we like, or do different things at the same time. All of those sound pretty good. :)

I'm hoping that I have a slightly better sense of what you guys like than when I was at SCAD. Don't want to disturb you with FLCL stuff again. XD The games Obsidian and Shadow of the Colossus are more like big, slow-paced, atmospheric fantasy environments to explore around in. The Heima movie is about the band Sigur Ros getting homesick and deciding to give free concerts in remote locations around Iceland, has a lot of beautiful footage of landscapes, and is sort of a feel-good movie about bringing people together through art. Do those sound like things you might be interested in?

Have you ever played any of the old puzzle/adventure games like Myst?

[identity profile] yonjuunana.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
But part of what I liked about it was how brilliant the graphics looked, that's what was inspiring, those intricate worlds that Robyn Miller designed.

Yeah, Obsidian has graphics of that level. It's like Myst set in a dream-like science fiction world.

I'm just really finicky sometimes and I know it's a bad thing

Don't worry about it. :) And I won't be offended if you don't like the things.

Shadow of the Colossus is part beautiful atmospheric slow-paced fantasy world, part reflex game. There are only 16 enemies in the entire game, all boss battles. Think of it like a huge, detailed fantasy world full of forests and ruins, and you get to spend a long time just wandering through the world with your horse, and every now and then a very pretty golem the size of a skyscraper tries to kill you. :P I'm no good at reflex games and I can't beat all the bosses, but Ian played the game through for me the first time and I just sat there like *_* being completely fascinated because it's all so pretty. The graphics and world-building are fantastic. So if you don't like fighting games, I can just show you some of the enemies I can actually beat, and the rest we can just load the level and be like "ooooh pretty!" until it stomps us to death. XD

Hey Daria! You ever tried playing video games? XD

[identity profile] jimnightmare.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
OH FUCK! What if Pk makes a video game about you and I play it and so I'm like being you in the video game? O_O The meta is hurting my head. I need to not think about this.

Uhh.

Anyway! I'm all excited to come visit. Have you ever climbed a palm tree? :D

[identity profile] jimnightmare.livejournal.com 2010-02-08 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's totally awesome! :D

Hey Lin, you're kinda lucky. The sculpture you guys have of you is way less creepy-looking than the junk-doll we have of me. XD

[identity profile] jimnightmare.livejournal.com 2010-02-08 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I mean she's IS kinda menacing-looking but you're not like "oh crap the sculpture's going to jump off the shelf and eat me".

You guys have to tell me more about kifus sometimes so I can stop thinking about it as a tardis. :P Maybe I'll think it's more scary if I know the story.

I don't know how to color things scary, except to be like all stereotypical and make it be evil red and black or something. I guess you've got some creepy green in there, and the twisty roots look kinda scary. Blue is kinda a happy color in my book, but it's my favorite color, so maybe that's just me. Does Lin always do magic blue?

[identity profile] jimnightmare.livejournal.com 2010-02-08 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
What does blue magic do?

Kifu is when they use uza to smash you into a box that's smaller than you are and then they seal it by putting it in a furnace and then they leave you in there for twenty years.

Okay. NOW I'm creeped out. People should not get squished into boxes. >:(

The colors look great...
