Hi memry! I can think of lots of reasons treehouses might be scary. They're high up and easy to fall out of. They can feel fragile, like they might fall apart in a storm. You can't see what's inside so there could be monsters. There's usually only one way out, unless you're a tiroth (monkey) who can swing through the trees, so it's easy to get cornered.
I wanted it to look mysterious. But then on the small sunny one, I tried to make it so light was falling onto the inside of the hut as if through a window on the other side... but the paint got all muddy and it didn't come out right. I was painting outside at the festival on an easel, and I had to finish it, so there wasn't time to let it dry and repaint it, because oil takes so long to dry.
