Reading American Gods. Makes sense. Fuck of a lot more real than crossing the wall through the careful stylized universe in The Fountainhead, even if they both call honor.

Re: Set This House In Order- Yeah, it's like this strange fictionalized literary version of multiplicity.

And OMFG, every fricking alter needs a little bit of breakfast?

LOL, I'd forgotten about that part. Yes, I found that quite stupid.

I actually found This Alien Shore to be closer to reality in a lot of ways- Not 100%, there are still some aspects that seem to come from researching the classic information available on the subject- it's trauma-based, the main person isn't aware of her alters until much later and just blacks out at first or gets stuck helplessly watching others pilot her body- But then later on there's descriptions of co-consciousness, blendiness, inner world stuff, the others as related "cousin souls" and sometimes serving as outlets for things instead of random people stuck together developing in weird quirky paths for no reason, and it hit a lot closer to home. Same with the autistic guy- there are bits of him that seem to come more from standard views of what autism is instead of what being autistic is really like, but some of it hits pretty close and overall I found the book quite impressive in portraying a very neurologically diverse cast. It's not perfect, but better than most of what I've seen, and the idea behind it is quite cool.

Re: biographies. I don't think the tweaking of reality to make a good story is necessarily narcissistic, unless you're tweaking the story to say that you're the most awesome person ever. :P I don't think it's bad or narcissistic for a person to want to write about themselves- people are fascinating, selves included, and I enjoy reading biographies. I wouldn't enjoy reading biographies if they contained a lot of unedited mundane details that didn't really go anywhere. Maybe try to think of it as doing your readers a favor. XD
